Historic Preservation Assessment

University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida

The campus of the University of Miami has constructed scores of buildings to meet classroom and housing needs since its founding nearly a century ago. They typify the styles of their periods; including WW II functional, Mid-Century Modern, Tropical Modern, Post Modern and other. The University continues to grow and its built environment is evolving to meet the changing needs of a first tier educational institution. To assist in planning for current and future growth the University engaged HCA with Jorge L. Hernandez Architect to review the existing campus buildings collection for historic significance and appropriateness. Working with Debra A. McClane, Architectural Historian, we have been inspecting numerous structures, reviewing historic documentation, and providing reports with guidance and recommendations.
