CAST STONE SCULPTURE ASSESSMENTS

4 cast stone sculptures representing the seasons had stood atop a building façade in a Florida seaside location before being removed during restoration of the building. HCA assessed each for structural and surface conditions and prepared a report detailing the findings. The study and tests confirmed that they were locally made cast stone replicas, not antique Italian originals as previously thought. The findings confirmed embedded iron reinforcing and severe surface deterioration from salt intrusion from the maritime environment. Based on the findings, the city landmarks commission and client agreed to replicate them as they had been and preserve the deteriorated originals elsewhere.
